Gerstacker Grove on the University of Michigan’s North Campus is the modern anti-quad. By Zach Mortice Gerstacker Grove is the only major piece of landscape connective tissue on the University of Michigan’s North Campus. His interests include all things two-wheeled, native habitat restoration, fungi/mushroom identification, photography, woodworking, and kayaking just to name a few.Stoss Landscape Urbanism’s design for the University of Michigan’s Gerstacker Grove melds ecological performance with technological proficiency. Outside of the office, Robert can be found with his wife and two boys road tripping their van across the country. With titles ranging from Lead Carpenter to Resident Engineer and a project scope extending from residential construction to massive infrastructure engineering, Robert understands how things come together and effortlessly bridges the gap between design teams, contractors, residents, and business owners. A student of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago and DIS Copenhagen, Robert has a unique breadth of understanding of the design and construction of our built environment at varying capacities and scales. Kiesgen III joined site as a Construction Administration Manager in 2022 with twenty-one years of experience rooted in construction, nourished by architecture, and tempered through engineering. Outside of the office, JD enjoys playing beach volleyball, where he met his wife, hiking and exploring nature, spending time with family, and nerding out playing board games with friends. He is currently managing several projects, including the CPS Space to Grow projects at Cook and Fernwood Elementary Schools, which incorporate stormwater management, outdoor learning, and active play. ![]() Volleyball courts design landscape arch license#JD is currently working towards his architectural license and professional engineering license in civil engineering. ![]() His technical experience and attention to detail allow him to translate designs from sketches into construction documents and through construction administration. This background has led him to work on many types of projects ranging from streetscapes, playgrounds, high rise amenity spaces, and everything in between. He has degrees in Civil Engineering and Architecture, with a minor in Construction Management. Justin (JD) Rossman is the CAD Manager, a Field Representative, and a Project Manager at site. In 2013, Ernie was elevated to the American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows for his exceptional leadership, extensive community service, and outreach work. This year, served as the keynote speaker for the Florida ASLA Conference, the Oregon ASLA Design Symposium, and a juror for the inaugural AIA Roberta Feldman Socially Just Design Award. Wong is a frequent speaker at universities as well as design, business, and diversity conferences. In managing the firm for over 31 years, site has established a reputation for creative design solutions, and developing thoughtful, community-oriented urban spaces.Įrnie serves on the board of numerous public service organizations and professional juries including the Driehaus Award for Architectural Excellence in Community Design, Chinese American Service League, Near South Planning Board, and as the Chair of the Chicago Landmarks Commission. Wong has been instrumental in the evolution of the firm as a multi-cultural cutting edge design entity and fostering the landscape architecture profession in the City of Chicago.
